Airfilter canister bracket - another special grommet!
« on: December 12, 2010, 05:05:27 »
On my 1968 280SL the air filter canister is held in place by one double-threaded rubber buffer and a bracket attached to the fender wall. In a 3-way discussion with Naj and Dave Gallon we discovered that the bracket needs another special grommet with a central sleeve that prevents over tightening the grommet. The original grommet is nla and the current one supplied by MB is slightly different, that is, a bit conical on one side and not flat on both sides as was the original,  but it should work. The grommet, w/o the sleeve, is available from Dave for about $2.10 (+shipping). If you lost the sleeve here are its dimensions: OD: 12 mm, ID: 9 mm, length: 6.25 mm.
Below is a composite photo (individual photos were provided by Dave Gallon) showing the bracket, original and currently supplied grommet, and sleeve.

Alfred,

Can you recall PN for the grommets for air filter canister bracket? The sleeve I can fabricate, grommets would be nice to order...

Here is your post, I could not just reply:

Pawel,
I don't have a p/n for those grommets because I got them from Dave Gallon. I'll try to contact him and find out (a) whether he still has some and (b) what the p/n is.
But you need to have a bit of patience.

Alfred, thank you!
Ans thanks for that post in the past - helped me today already, I was figuring out how this canister should be properly suspended.

I stumbled across this old thread and can add a partial solution if anyone needs it.
Part number 1201550081 is a very similar grommet that can be made to fit.

In that first picture, I think that hole labeled "drain?" is actually for one of the AC hoses?
