Brake fluid/door light flashes intermittently
« on: February 01, 2011, 02:12:29 »
Lately I've seen the dash light for the brake fluid/door ajar flashing at random intervals while driving. The fluid level is at full and the doors are shut. The light does not correlate to acceleration, braking, going over a bump, or anything else I can find. I think it may happen more in the first 15 minutes or so but I have not driven it over 1/2 hour at a time since this started. Any ideas?

Hello,

As a first check have you actually looked at the float in the fluid reservoir. If it has a pin hole in it, they do get them, and has got fluid in it it may be setting off what appears to be a low fluid level warning light.

I second Garry's recommendation to check the floats in the brake fluid reservoir.

The problem was related to the float but not from a leak. The molded rubber piece that bridges between the two sections of the reservoir was touching the front float enough to keep it from coming all the way up. I trimmed a little bit off the end and it's working fine now.
