Anyone know what the correct finish is for a 250/280sl Radatior fan?
White Cad? Galvanized? Silver paint?

Hello Tom,
These fan blades are magnesium and come from the factory in the natural magnesium metal color I believe. They may have had a clear protective coating when new? Magnesium may  pit or discolor over time from poor storage. Some owners incorrectly spray them a metalic grey or aluminum color to refresh their look.

Magnesium is very strong and lightweight. Also expensive if you ever need to buy a new one. Magneium is also very brittle and will break. Any damaged or bent  fan blade should be replaced for safety reasons. I have seen a Mercedes with a hole in it's hood after a damage fan shed a magnesium blade and launched it through the hood! Magnesium is a metal which will also burn fairly easily!

These days replacement fan blades from Mercedes are plastic. Luckily sedan donor cars of the era also used the same original magnesium fan blades as these W113 cars.

Thanks Joe. I guess I'll bead blast, lightly buff & clear coat it... the fan blade  that is.

I would suggest cleaning it in citrus degreaser (like P21S Total Auto Wash) and let it go at that.  If you bead blast the magnesium it will just give dirt a nice surface to bond to and it will probably look worse.

I found out these were magnesium many years ago when I sent one out to have it clear anodized (I thought it was aluminum).  The plater came back saying he couldn't do it because of the material.

Make sure you buff all the bolts that hold the blade on. If you look close with a magnifying glass you should be able to read '' ****er '' on the end.

Actually the missing word starts with '' W ''

So the Benz Dr. and Tom 230SL the bolt buffer decided to settle everything mono to mono. The contest was to be a wrestling match. The odds were heavily in favour of the Dr with a lot of bets going in that direction. A few including Firestormer sided with Mr buffer.

The Dr. trained hard and one day his trainer came up to him and said,'' Now, don't forget all the resrearch we've done on buffer. He's never lost a match because of this dreaded ' pretzel' hold he has, whatever you do, do not let him get you in that hold! If he does, you're finished!''
The D. nodded - he understood what had to be done.

The day of the big match came and as the match started the Dr. and buffer circled each other several times, looking for an opening.
All of a sudden buffer lunged forwad, grabbing the Dr. and wrapping him up in the dreaded pretzel hold. A huge sigh of disapointment arose from the large crowd and the trainer was pale, he knew all was lost. He couldn't watch what was about to happen.

Suddenly, there was huge scream, then a cheer from the crowd and the trainer raised just in time to see the buffer flying through the air, bouncing off the ceiling and then landing with a huge thud on the floor. The Dr threw all his weight on top of the buffer easily pinning him and winning the match. The crowd went wild. Money flew into the air and all were happy save a few.

Afterwards, the trainer took the Dr aside and asked him , '' How did you ever get out of that hold? No one has ever done that before!''
Dr. answered, ''Well, I was ready to give up when he got me in that hold but at the last moment, I opened my eyes and saw this pair of testicles right in front of my face. I had nothing to loose so with my last ounce of strengh I streached out myneck and bit those babies just as hard as I could''.

'' So, '' said the trainer, '' That's what finished him off.''

'' Not really.'' Said the Dr.

'' You'd be amazed how strong you get when you bite your own nads.''

Just when you think you've had about as much of the Benz Dr. as you could possibly stand, he rolls out with something like this and we all realize how absolutely critical it is that we keep him around.

A good tool  to buy for fine detailing & restoration of small parts is  a pair of Opti Visors with replacement lens that pop in and out. You can wear thes over percription glasses and increase the magnification many times over . I use DoneGan Optical in Lenexa Kansas made in USA I have a LP-7 , LP-5,&LP-3 that allows magifies 1 3/4 times 14 ". I also purchased an OptiLoupe that screws on on side of the lens LP-1.
An investment of under $40.00 and very usefull just talk to a watch maker.

So one day the Benz Dr. decided to take a trip and see how other people live. He crossed the border into the States near where he lives, drove into Michigan and got on I 75. After many hours of driving he stopped in Georgia and met with some of the local 113 guys in that area.
Most of them had never seen a Canadian before so they were really interested in how things were different up ' north '.

'' Tell me,'' says one of them, ''Do they have much TV up your way?''
''Sure! '' says the Dr. '' We even have Statelite TV with about 300 chanells ''
''WOW ! '' they all said.
'' Yeah,'' he went on, '' We turn our igloos upside down and put a hockey stick in the middle when we want to watch the games.''

Again they were all very impressed.

The conversation went on about various things and then the topic turned to women.

'' Tell me,'' said Ed. Do they have many females in Canada? ''
'' Yeah, I've seen a few out in the wild.'' says the Dr.
'' Can you get close to them?'' Asked a somewhat eager Ed.
'' Yup. I even married one.'' proclaimed the Dr.
'' Really? '' says Ed. '' So you're kind of like a man about the world then?''
'' You 'could' say that.'' answers the Dr.

'' So tell me, oh wise Dr. What's your favorite position?''
'' HUH ???'' asked the shocked Dr.
'' What's your favorite position?''repeated by ED.
'' What? You mean like with a woman ??? ''
'' Yeah, like with a woman.'' wispers Ed.
'' Well, I guess that would be the rodeo position,eh.'' confides the Dr.

Ed had never heard of such a thing and wondered if this was some sort of strange Canadian custom. All his friends were on the other side of the room and he saw his chance to pick up some new ideas - something juicey that no one else around there had ever heard about let alone ever tired.

'' So what's that like? Never heard of the rodeo position before.'' says Ed in a low voice.

'' Well,'' says the Dr. '' First I get her on all fours.''

'' Then I mount her from behind.''

'' Then I reach down and cup one in each hand.''

'' WOW!!!'' says an astounded Ed. His eyes growing wider , his mouth falling open. '' Then what? ''

'' Well, then I bend down a little bit lower and wisper in her ear......''

''.... Feels just like your sister's ...... ''

( scroll down )

'' Then I try and stay on for 8 seconds! ''

Can't let this fall on to the back pages......

So one day three 113 guys were sitting around talking about how they had set their wives straight on their duties around the house when they got married.

Mike:
''I married a woman from Michigan. I told her to do all the dishs and clean the house. It took her a couple of days but on the third day I came home to a clean house and all the dishes were done and put away.''

Rodd:
'' I married a woman from Ohio. I told her she had to do all the cleaning, dishes, and the cooking. The first day I didn't see any results, but the next day it was better, and on the third day, my house was clean, the dishes were done, and I had a huge dinner on the table.''

Dan:
''I married a Canadian girl. I told her MY house was to be cleaned, dishes washed, the cooking done and laundry folded - no excuses.
And all of this was HER responsibility.

On the first day I didn't see much.

On the second day I didn't see ANYTHING!

On the third day it was just AWFUL.

On the fourth day things got WORSE!!!!!

But on the fifth day some of the swelling had gone down enough that I could see a little out of my left eye.''

Fiesty gals, those Canadians.
