Riding home last night on the Henry Hudson Pkwy(near Manhattan) I hear a noise emanating roughly every 30 seconds from what sounds like the bottom of my car. As I approach the toll into Manhattan it becomes considerably more frequent. unfortunately there was no shoulder so I had to drive 3 more miles to get off. At that point I found that my entire exhaust system had come off the hanger and was about 2 inches from the ground, thus the noise(as if I didn't know). As it was late and I was in Washington Heights, I lifted the tailpipe and tied it w/ some cord I had to the rear bumper and gas tank to anchor and drove it very slowly and parked it in midtown. This morning I took it to Mercedes Manhattan where they said it would be at least a week, probably more, before they could attend to it and would also have to wait for the vintage parts. My question is, should I leave it w/ them and let them do the work, or can this type of thing be done by another mechanic and would that mechanic have the right parts? Someone said they knew a garage where they could tie it up more tightly, then I could get it out to Wolfgang's in Tenafly. Any recommendations? To the best of my knowledge, there wasn't any visible damage to the exhaust.
