Title: Villiers Special
Post by: JamesL on December 23, 2008, 19:39:57
Having watched the Blacklick video numerous times, I finally decided to adopt a number of the suggested modifications

The car now has a 3.46 axle, Carbotech brakes, Koni Classic shocks and w123 alloy wheels

I got it back from the shop today and took it for a 150 mile spin

Ooooohhhh, wonderful. It's a much nicer drive on the highway, quieter, longer legged, smoother over the bumpy bits and an all round much nicer drive - and it was good anyway

Thanks!!!! ;D

Hi Tosh,

Welcome to the very special 3.46 Club.  They don't know what they are missing!

Tosh,

Whats involved with the Carbotech brake mod as I would be quite interested in that.

Change the pads - I had them change the brake pipes while they had the system open

Mike at Carbotech now has the exact spec of the front and back pads for the 280sl - it took a few days to get that (thanks naj). Simply replace the standard items.

pm me and I'll try get the item numbers and the price.

Just did another 20 miles on some local B-roads (narrow 2 lane twisty things)

Had an absolute blast, really made the car even more enjoyable to drive - and still have acceleration (wheelspun and lost the back end coming out of one corner a bit too heavily :o ;D ;D)

Thanks to Jim and the Blacklick video!

All I need now is for the wife to find out how much it all cost.
