Good Day,
I recently purchased a 1965 - 230 SL Manual. Looking to enjoy for the summer and begin and overhaul in the winter months.
WOuld like to give the car a service and struggling to buy the basics as not sure where to look... Was thinking I would buy plugs and points, oil, air and fuel filters to get me started - any advice would be appreciated if I need anything else?
I am based in Scotland, UK but presume can order from anywhere...
Thanks in advance,
Ian

Hello, Ian,
Welcome to the group.
Filters: These are Mann filter part #s. You can get them from German and Swedish or equivalents from Euro car Parts or local factors:
Air: C15 120
Oil: H720x
Fuel: P707
Plugs: A popular choice is NGK: BP6ES
To get the correct points, you will need the Bosch # on tag on the Distributor.
There are additional seals in the oil filter assembly which should be changed if not recently done.
Have a look at this topic in the wiki.
You need the three with MB part #s given in red

Hope you're enjoying your car already.
Are you a member of the UK MB Owners Club?
There is an 'SL Day' gathering at Castle Howard in Yorks. in August.
Hope this helps.
Happy fixing,
naj

Off to go get parts and find out the other bits I need....
Thank you,
