Title: Breather pipe source
Post by: seattle_Jerry on June 28, 2009, 00:18:00
Any suggestions on where to find a replacement metal breather pipe? As I work through the engine I just noticed that it is broken and held together by tape.

Hi Jerry. As far as I know, the original all-metal breather pipe is NLA. The replacement ones (they are now rubber) are available from SLS, Miller's, etc I believe. How far gone is yours? The original was two metal pipes joined by a coolant hose. Mine was corroded a bit near the tips but I was able to salvage it.

My break looks just like yours except its right next to that clamp. I like the banjo bolt setup better than the rubber elbow mine has, btw

Hello Jerry,

I had my metal breather pipe rebuilt a couple of years ago by a reputable hydraulic pipe specialist.
I gave them the original rusted pipes to use as a template with the instruction to retain the original banjo bolt fitting.

They did a very good job of bending similar diameter metal pipes to match the shape of the original design.
The original banjo fitting was soldered back in place.
