Title: Fuel pump leak
Post by: seattle_Jerry on June 29, 2009, 08:18:40
I made the mistake of taking the bottom off my fuel pump when I got my car since it had sat for many years. Now there is a very small leak. You can just see droplets forming on several screws.

Should I use a thread sealer on them and some kind of liquid gasket on the bottom plate? Opinions?

The answer to this is no. The bottom o-ringl sits inside the screw "circle" and when it is working properly you should not need to use a sealant on the threads. What happens more often than not, is the o-ring is compressed. When you remove the bottom, you upset this o-ring and due to its compression and age it can no longer provide a seal. Replacing the o-ring with a new one should solve your problem. Hope this helps.
