Title: 280SL versus 280SL/8
Post by: twistedtree on January 14, 2010, 23:09:06
I've recently seen the SL/8 designation.  What does it mean?

It means that the model(280 SL) was introduced in 1968.  Also a 300 SEL 6.3 is designated as a /8 model being introduced in 196(8)
If you take W111 280 SE 3.5 it will show that it is a "/9" since it was introduced in 1969.
AT least that's how I've always understood it.

P.S. Don't forget to use the Search function before posting...you'll be surprised by what shows up.

Thanks for the pointer.  I did a bunch of searching but the "/" seems to have special meaning in a search, so it returned everything with a 280 and an 8, which was basically a haystack with a needle in it somewhere.
