Title: Hardtop-to-windshield sealing material (or gasket) ... ?
Post by: LXIX SL Rookie on April 23, 2010, 22:03:48
I just removed the hardtop for the first time since we've bought our '69 280 SL last fall.  The front edge/lip of the top left a considerable amount of sealing material on the top of the windshield. That I've been able to clean off easily, but shouldn't I replace what's left on the edge/lip with new material?  And if so, what should I use ... ? ... or what should I have a pro body shop use?  Or is it a pre-cut gasket of sorts ... ?  Thanks!  Pete N., eastern Maryland

I recently repainted my 1970 280SL and replaced all the rubber seals on the hardtop, softop, doors, trunk lids etc.  I was pleased to learn I could easily purchase all of the rubber seals from a number of sources.  I elected to  buy all of them directly from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Car Center in Irvine, Ca

Easy to work with and anytime I can buy directly from M-B at reasonable prices, I do.
