Title: My new speaker box

I thought I would fix the mono sound with 2 speakers so I ended up wth this. I used original style speakers and made a box to fit the console.  I with a mohagany veneer and sized it right to double as a arm rest.  The speakers are quick plugs like the originals. I think it came out looking like it could be original.

To be complete you might consider adding this one and run a belt down to the drive shaft.  ;) ;D

This is cool :) How does it sound ? Much better than the original I bet. I might just try and make one myself. Thanks for the idea.

The original Becker mono (and stereo) and the original design Becker speakers sound much better than people suggest.   The dash speaker is available NEW for something like $75 from autosound.  The kickpanel speakers are also available, although not installed in the enclosure, and the kick panel speakers can be re-coned.   One of the advantages of they old speakers is that they are designed for low-output radios and the sound is actually well matched between the older design speakers and the older low-output radios.  The new spiffy speakers that someone crammed into my W123 wagon sound like crap with the old Becker 780 (20 x 2 watts) but it sounds great with the original speakers.    I think that in many cases is the problem with the old speakers is that they are OLD, not that they are WRONG.  The round ones can be re-coned.  The long ones can be purchased new.

I made the box to be a functional as possible. I had some original speakers but wanted to avoid cutting up the kick panel. The car had a mono radio but I went with a later becker stereo. The box is easy to make and I used a mahogany veneer. The sound is on par with a sixties radio. I like that because fits the cars persona well. My bonus was I got an arm rest. :D
