Did this just start? Had the lights been out, and you are now working to try to get everything working alright?

I had a similar problem with my car, and finally found that the wires in the connectors (in the trunk) were switched! It was grounding out, and every time I put in a fuse, pow, it blew.

or is there a break or some other touch point in the wiring that is grounding out the connections?

Just had some bodywork done and went to fit the rear lights and it started to happen only on the left side of the car as we went to fit the connectors BTW the connectors were not taken apart.
Thanks

....... Having been in the automotive repair business for some twenty odd years, before my retirement, I have yet to see a bodyshop that is reconnecting wires correctly after they are finished with there work.
On every older German car, as far as I know, the ground wires are BROWN !!! Most of the time the black wire, that is live, is mistaken for the ground wire hence fuses popping galore....

There are wiring diagrams an article on fuses and more in the Tech Manual.
