Title: Welcome to 2011!
Post by: J. Huber on January 02, 2011, 01:43:56
Happy New Year all. Hope 2011 treats you and your Pagoda well.

In keeping with a tradition of mine. I have tallied my annual mileage for last year. The odometer reads 24610 (been over the top a couple times!) -- which means I drove precisely 2387 KM (or @ 1480 miles.) Not a lot really, a bit less than average for the last 10 years I believe. I drove my Pagoda fairly regularly throughout the year -- sunshine permitting. No long rides last year to speak of -- but plenty of shorties. Car ran fantastic every time. Anyone else keep track of these things?

And to break in the New Year, since a ride was out of the question (snowy/cold!) ... I decided to do a detail. Girls got me some microfiber towels for Christmas so I figured I better try them out! I used Meguire's -- first the Quick Detail Mist. then Number 7 Glaze. Here are some shots -- still looks decent for a 12 year old cheap respray.

First off, would you like to come over and detail mine? Yours looks so great!

Since we've had continuous salty roads since my last rally it's still in pretty bad shape... dirt has been sprayed off but I should really clean all the fold-over body work ledges and do it again before I can think of detailing. But you've done such a great job on yours...

Secondly, I drove 3940 km's last year. This includes the European Event and the rally I wrote about... in other words... I've not driven nearly enough besides those two events. I used 608 liters of petrol for that, which works out at 6,48 km/l. I paid € 880,35 for that petrol, which, at current exchange rates is $1117 or thereabouts. Expensive hobby, rallies!

That equals to 15.4 litres/100 km ... which is still not bad when rallying! :D
Soft cruising would have been 2-3 litres less I guess, so overall, still a very acceptable fuel consumption for our cars. ;)

Best,
Achim
(about 13.5 litres/100 km cruising with the W114)

I just realized that my Pagoda 280 SL is about to celebrate its (should I say "HIS") 40th birthday.... This particular car was born on 11th February 1971 (that day I was.... 12).
It happened to be the 7th before the last Pagoda built (at least according to the official pedigree numbers).

So happy New Year to all and to your "older" cars!!!
