Title: Hood spacing technique after a re-spray

Gents,

I had much needed work touched up on my 230 sl in 670h Light Ivory and the auto body shop decided to repaint the entire car since it was single state.

Anyway, when he attached the hood it now rubs slighty on one side....Could there be too much paint or shall I have him continue to work the hood brackets to get the proper spacing?

It appears it is tighter on one side.  Are there any pointers I can provide to him on how to adjust the brackets.

Is it possible a spacing washer got missplaced/fell off on the tight side.
Remove hood, mask all edges, loosen the brackets have at least two support the hood
whilst giggling for correct position - trial and error.
Normally the position of the hinges should be marked before hood removal to aid
reassembly. Good luck!

wow! -my advice is to slightly loosen the bracket bolts------shut hood-------------position gently with thin towels in the space around the hood/body, while using a plastic spatula to move hood around-adusting to what you think looks good.  then click release under dash-gently lift hood with a helper----enough to get your socket wrench in there to tighten bolts-check again, and repeat until you get it right

I spent hours fitting a new hood and used 8 plastic "bondo spreaders" wedged around the perimiter of the hood. They are slightly larger than a playing card and taper so that as you push them down they will move the hood slightly. Available at any autopart store. Hinges of course should be loose.
