Title: Windshield Glass Source ?
Post by: MRB43 on March 21, 2011, 05:21:48
Can anyone advise of the best source for a windshield replacement (tinted), the rubber gasket and the 2 aluminum decorative pieces that create the windshield surround for a '70 280SL ?

Thanks.

Mark

Pilkington, Saint Gobain or equivalent - at least here in Europe.
They're the original manufacturers for MB (OEM). The original company of the 60ies does belong to a larger multi-national glass empire nowadays.... (see above).

As for the gasket and the alumin(i)um chrome strips: MB, nothing else. At least for the chrome surrounds.

IMHO

I totally agree with Achim, MB for rubbers also are a must, the cheaper non MB ones will only cause you heartache in fitting the windows. Don't ask how I know!

I got a windshield, gasket and the aluminum pieces from the Classic Center in California. Perfect fit.

PPG  makes a good one for our car-installed total price around 200. for glass plus the labor. I heard PPG is making them for mercedes and mercedes puts their name on them. I have a ppg-it's tinted correctly and fits great. The trick is who you get to install it-The rubber and chrome have to be fit on the glass first on a table-then carried and installed on car with the rope trick that goes into the rubber , and releases as they insert into the car

Caliber Motors dba Mercedes-Benz of Anaheim. Ask for Al Trevino in wholesale parts and tell him you're a club member.
