For the plate shown as #101 in the attachment:
1. Is the color supposed to be body color, black, other, or rust colored like mine? :D
2. It appears like I can remove the four bolts (#102 and remove the plate for paint) as long as the car is on the ground, correct? Am I about to make a big mistake? Anything I need to be careful of? (I won't move the car when the bolts are out !)
Thank you again for your help !!

A car should not be moved unless both plate covers are in place. Moving a car with a missing cover allows the subframe to move.
If the mount moves, the car must be jacked or lifted to take the weight off the mount to allow the plate bolt holes to align correctly.
The plate color is dull black. The bolts are unpainted and each has a washer.
The 230's and early 250's had a plastic cover over each plate. These were eliminated in the later cars. 280's did not have the plastic covers.

Thank you Richard !
Exactly what I needed to know.
I hope mine look like yours soon.

Anyone know if the plates are available separately?
I am missing one.

SLS list them, not cheap at 78 Euros

Hello,
One other item to watch out for. The small bolts for the W113 cars with the plates are longer than the bolts included with the sedan kits (W108). Save your original bolts if you are using a W108 kit.
