Can any members recommend a good chroming company in the UK to do a full re chrome of my SL. I have looked through past posts and see Collanade and London Chroming Company both in London. Does anyone have recent good/bad experiences with these specialists and of any others.

I use collonade but they are VERY slow, jobs can take several months, and both father and son can be quite abrupt. I don't mind it but otheers might find their manner difficult. The quality is excellent though.
I was recently recommended a place in the midlands but I haven't tried them out yet and I can't remember their name offhand.

The company in the midlands is  Marque Restore  they have always done a good job for me but they are a little slow.

Thanks for these so far, I gather the process is quite slow so I need to move sooner rather than later. I'll speak to both of them next week, Stick - thanks for the abrupt warning, in Lincolnshire we'd call it 'clunch', so should get on fine! I like people who call a spade a spade!

Ive used Marque Restore and their work is spot on... 2 months is pretty much an average turn around.

There is another good one in the west midlands area, it was on one of those VW shows on Sky but really cannot remember the name now.

Thanks, to update I have photographed and emailed various items to various companies and am gently getting an idea of prices varying from unpleasant to very unpleasant! I had no idea it was so expensive but do understand how important it is to get the job done properly at this stage of my restoration.

I have used Douglas Metal Finishing in London for all of my chrome, quick, excellent quality triple plating and will deal (if you know what I mean!)

They have done just about every component on my 230SL and I am delighted although I certainly am very fussy !

Hi

I have been using London Chroming for about 20 years, they are excellent, probably THE best plating I have seen, not cheap but then "you get what you pay for"

On steel they always copper plate before the nickel (nickel doesnt adhere to steel very well) and on the bumpers they polish them lengthwise so that you don't get that awful ripple effect that you would if polish accross the bumper.

Also they are prepared to chrome small items (the last job I set them included some 4ba screws that were not more than half an inch long!)

Really can't recommend them highly enough
