Hello all,
When I removed the WRD on my 280 SL I was rather surprised to see such a gap between the top and bottom parts of the WRD body. See picture 1. In reading through the excellent articles on the WRD, for which I am greatly appreciative I discovered that the spacer plate which sits between the two body parts needs to be drilled out to 13mm to accommodate the later type heat sensors, see picture 2. Having done that, I am still left with gap between the spacer plate and top body albeit much reduced.
Am I missing a seal of some sort or is there more than one type of housing or spacer plate.
All your help greatly appreciated.
Peter

Hi Peter,
No, you're not missing a spacer that's how they are. I just wrap some plumbers PTFE tape round the base flange of the thermostat to make sure there are no leaks. When you tighten things down make sure everything is square as it's very easy to to be uneven as per your pic1 which can lead to leaks.

Hi David,
Many thanks for your reply, its very reassuring to know that I have the right bits and can proceed. I will be careful to keep it square and sealed.

Just a question here....? Is that the original WRD on the 280? Looks like a 230 WRD...? Alfred(West coast) had a copper washer for the 230 WRD, as I remember.. Check search.
