Most interesting! I knew that there were a few sunroof hardtops out there, but had NEVER heard of one electrically operated. Sure seems like a whole lot of trouble; complexity, extra weight, connections, etc. for not much gain.

Interesting find, was it a factory option?

This might be a really dumb question but did Pagoda's ever come with factory powered windows??

According to the Tech Manual, option 411

Schiebedach mechanisch

Manual sliding roof in hardtop (as of 1970)

411

There were two suppliers, Golde (crank operated) and Webasto (T-handle). On special order, an electrically operated Golde sliding roof was also available. (13)

Ok Kevin, interesting.  I'm not sure what literature this "tech manual" you are referring to is. Is it a MBNA sales handbook or similar?
In the factory price list (in Europe) like "Preisliste Personenwagen und Sonderausstattungen No 5" with issue date Feb 1971, or the Salesmans Handbook "EXO/Verkaufsförderung", the SA 41/1 is indeed listed for sedans and coupés; "Schiebedach mechanisch" and SA 41/0 "Schiebedach elektrisch".
For 280SE cabriolet and  280SL /8 however, both these SA are noted with a dash, i.e. cannot be supplied    " -  nicht lieferbar"

Hello Hans,
the "tech manual" Kevin is referencing is our own one  :o http://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/OptionCodes
Unfortunately it is not clear whether the second entry for Code 411 reference (13) "Photo by C.F. Mirbach " would actually provide some proof for the statement.
The Japanese compilation of codes (http://www.bekkoame.ne.jp/~mtor/mbcodedsc.html) shows:
411           from 01.10.1965  to 31.10.1993     MECHANICAL AND HYDRAULIC SLIDING ROOF
411           from 01.02.1963  to 30.09.1965     STEEL SLIDING ROOF

and Manfred Luft in his compilation for the German Pagoda Club simply states: " Stahl-Schiebedach * nicht fuer W113" {= steel sliding roof * not for W113} , exactly the same what your sources indicate.
Perhaps Gernold might know.
