Title: What is this tool used for?
Post by: lurtch on June 10, 2012, 20:25:17
Hello All

I found this little device in among a bunch of my Dad's old junk-tool collection.

Who can tell me what it is used for?   My guess is that it engages some kind of instrument panel fastener or escutcheon. My Dad worked for United Airlines.

What you have is a "British Buttner Pipe Reamer". Was your father a pipe smoker?  While all kinds of pipes can be reamed, I am fairly certain this is for the tobacco variety.

Google is our friend. "Britsh Buttner" is on the device. If you really have to have one, there are six for sale on Ebay right now. Several even had the ever popular carrying case.
