Can anyone tell me cost to replace two mufflers and all exhaust pipes to stainless steel?
Thanks

Hello Eric,
Depends on the source of the exhaust set. ;)
Between 500 - 900 €uros - or the relevant equivalent in $$.
Plus labor - if necessary.

I got mine from Time Valve about 24 years ago and it looks good, went in easily and I have had no trouble with it.
Time Valve/ 800-243-1170.
Good luck!

Nothing beats the 'test of time' . 24 years & no issues says a lot....

I put factory mufflers and pipes on mine. I make sure the car is up to temperature and have no problems with rust out. It was several hundred cheaper and sounds good like it should. Some have said the stainless has a different sound...

Is this true, does SS sound different (louder)? Can anyone clear this issue up?

The stainless system will sound different. It will usually be louder, I think that's fair to say - and seem 'sportier'. It may 'resonate' at certain frequencies which may or may not annoy you. The system will probably not incorporate the rear muffler internals - just a rear expansion box. make sure you get the tailpipes to match as closely as possible to the originals or they will look odd.
I had a stainless system (welded to the existing front downpipes) by Longlife Exhausts (branches throughout UK) for under £500. I was asked what level of 'sporty sound' would I prefer- I went with the quietest. (Still louder than standard)
Although, it's a fit and forget thing and saves money long term and looks good - the car was actually designed to sound 'refined' not 'sporty' Also, mine has a slight 'thrummy' resonance when pulling hard.
Though satisfied with my system, I would advise the fitting of a standard system for originality and refinement.

My SS exhaust system cost $930 (including tips and labor) installed a couple of years ago. Read my other post as to sound and reasons why.

Kaye,
Thanks, think I will go with original MB pipes. I want the original sound. I am currently a member of the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America), and this club expects car shown in their shows to be in original condition as if directly from factory. I do show in their shows, so would like to keep original, both in equipment and sound.

You can put on the stainless one as the AACA doesn't look under cars for judging. You can put on correct rear muffler and tips which can be seen on one knee and enjoy never having to replace the pipes again. AACA will only judge what can be seen on one knee.

Here's an original system. Been on the car over 20 years. I stuff rags in the tailpipes when I'm done driving, trick I was told of by the previous owner of the car to prevent moisture in the system.

I put on a stainless system maybe 6 years ago. Sound is great, not 'tinny' nor louder than the regular steel system that was on it before ("what was that?"). I think I paid around Eur 700 for it from Van Dijk in Holland.

There is a complete stainless steel system slight used right now on ebay for $350. It is in New Jersey. Check it out.
