Improving Mr. Paul Bracq's work seems impossible to many or unnecessary to others. Yet there are some people that try to get new inspiration and revive the Pagoda spirit of modern era
-
It looks like it had an accident as they were wheeling it out of the design workshop and smacked into the front doors. On a tight budget they decided to just put it out anyway, the lights fitted into the two gashes caused by the door raising struts on either side
-
My wife and I like it. Her comment just now was: "so what's different about it?" She's seen and driven in our 280 SL since 1999.
-
Certainly not to me - not remotely an improvement -- in my opinion !!
-
My wife's reaction was extremely positive. She actually asked when she could have one, preferably in metallic blue with parchment letter interior…
Quite frankly I wouldn't mind having both classic and modern Pagoda in my garage… why not same color ???
-
My apologies to you and your wife, Stan, but I would rather have a Hover Pagoda -- anyone know where I can get one ?
-
My son just gave it two thumbs up. "So I guess Mercedes is not a total loss after all!" (He's 13).
-
Whether you like it or not, I still think it is impressive that the Pagoda shape is so iconic that it is a source of inspiration (although way too obvious for my taste) 50 years after its launch...
-
Dale,
for the Hover version try eBay… on eBay... everything goes. Alternatively, a slightly more basic but much cheaper version would be to go for a broomstick… some ladies in the remote past used that for their travel needs :D
-
Stan, Of course - Ebay, everything is available. Just last year alone I bought the Brooklyn Bridge, and some land in Florida. Thanks for the suggestion of a broom, but I feel that lacks the panache of a Pagoda. Cheers, Dale.

I like it....

To make a Hover Pagoda, start with a Tatooine Land Speeder chassis. Obi Wan sold Luke`s cheap at Moss Eisley Spaceport. Then just stick the Pagoda body panels on it. With a welder and some Bondo, it should be easy.

I love it, and would like to own one. Are they going to produce this?
-
looks good!
-
Call me old fashion. There is nothing like the original!
-
Sadly, for all that would like to see it, touch it or even buy it: the picture of the new retro-look Pagoda is only a rendering…. :(
I think that Mercedes Benz could take an inspiration to recreate a new Pagoda like VW did it for the Beetle.
In principle I agree with 71Beige280SL that there is nothing like the original, but the idea of perpetuating Paul Bracq's genial idea is very worthwhile in my humble view.
BTW, for Pagoda owners, being called old fashion should be taken for a compliment :)
-
I give it a thumbs up!
-
I think it looks great! More current, but the same look
-
I think I like it....! different but good looking ::)
-
any chance to get a 3D interactive or other pictures of this from the back? :)
-
dwahi
that was unfortunately the question I asked the person that posted the rendering on another forum. Much to my disappointment I learnt that this is the only image that was shown. :-[ I would also love to see how the back was conceived.
Maybe there is a CAD enabled member here who would not mind playing with the idea and give us his conceptualization, as they say,
or…
...Michael Salemi would be kind enough to approach Paul Bracq and show him this rendering, asking to do complete the work based on this idea...;)…. Actually, that would be not very appropriate, as the original Pagoda is a non-perfectible car, but it would be so interesting to know the reaction of the 'maitre-designer' to this concept...

Yes, and I have been thinking, "what if" MB began doing a special series based on older classic models, I mean they have the SLS mapped on the Gullwing (ofcourse 60 years on...), can we expect a retro Pagoda look a like?

I have a strong feeling that we are about to start a fully fledged movement of Pagoda resurrection believers, with lobbyists in Washington and support marches all over the world.
Should we launch that revandication at the 50th anniversary events???
WE DEMAND NEW PAGODA!!!! SLK NO! PAGODA YES!!! Anti Pagodians: NO PASARÁN!!!
