Title: I am going to Oahu - things to do
Post by: Bonnyboy on March 09, 2013, 00:57:21
I am heading to Waikiki and was wondering if there is anything Mercedes / W113 / cool that I should not miss.   It will probably be the last time I go for a while as my wife keeps talking about Tuscany before the kids head to university.

I will only be on the island of Oahu so no visits to Passarelli Restorations even though I'm really tempted to stow away on a fishing boat to get over there.  I will hit the Mercedes dealer but the last time I went there and asked about a place to see old mercedes cars they suggested that there was usually a 560sl parked over by a bank in the area.

I was fortunate enough to be there a year and half ago - did not find anything Mercedes to do, unfortunately. However, I must tell you that if you have not been to the Battleship Arizona memorial, you should see that!

Have fun in Hawaii, my wife and I sure did.

Thanks,  just got back this morning.

Never found anything to do re Mercedes but I did rent a big Harley and cruised for a while in the nicer residential areas and some not - just exploring.

Overall saw a few older Porsches under restoration, saw a 190sl under a tarp, saw lots or 80-90's sl's, even one on the back of a towtruck, and only saw two Pagodas, - one on the main strip and one heading to work in the business district.

Saw several 70-80's sedans in various states of repair.

When we were in Waikiki last October, we saw two Pagodas in one hour. First was white '70 280SL parked along Kalakaua Ave by San Souci park, then about a half hour later we saw a gold SL (unknown year) pull out a shopping center onto Kalaniananole Hwy over at Hawaii Kai. Amazing!
