I am in the process of changing my rear axle (subject of a separate thread) . Forgive the proliferation, but I wanted to see if anyone not following the gripping and highly controversial epic that is the other thread might have a photo or two of a brake compensating valve in place under their car, (Naj took one a few years ago when we visited Roger Edwards, but to save him having to dig it out from his huge archive, i wondered if another member could oblige?)
The 230 doesn't have one (drums) and I need to fit one. I would be most grateful for any tips from those who have been there, done that as despite having a very late 230 I don't my car has any fittings.
Grateful if some could email me a quality shot rather than compress to post here.

I spent an Interesting day at Essen today. Lots and lots of 113s. Couldn't really get under any though.
I now understand that I need to buy a new brake master cylinder. It nevers ends...!

So in order that I don't screw this up, and using David's picture (what an amazingly clean underside!), I've copied David's picture and indicated where I think the lines go into/out of the valve. Can anyone verify this for me please?

Despite the excellent pics I'm still having troubling trying to place this.
Does anyone have any measurements of where the valve goes? Also any confirmation of the input and output lines as shown in the dia, below, would be really useful.
I think I've cracked it for my new BM cylinder, but the position of this valve is slowing me going forward as I don't have the confidence to place it on the car at present given that the axle is off the car and so I don't know where things line up. I wondered if it should go where the current small distribution valve goes on the 230 (the small T valve that takes the line from the master cylinder and then splits it to the drums)???
Mostly stuck.

James I am pretty sure you are correct with respect to what goes where pipe work wise.
As for the exact position, is it mm critical? Not far from the tank bracket and almost inline
with the drain plug in the cross member :-\ :-\
You are obviously not concerned about authenticity so go for it as long as the flexible reaches, the
other pipes are made to suit.

Thanks. I think you're right. I'm being a bit of a big girl about the whole thing. The only reason, though, that I'm being slightly cautious is because I have to drill into the car. I don't have the calipers at present, and so can't exactly (or even not-exactly) work out what brake line goes where, or where the flexible hoses will reach. Hence the concern. I think if I can get the calipers over here soon, it'll be easier to envisage.
I'll persevere working off the photos I've got. I should be able to figure it out. Worst case is that I need to make a new brake line from scratch, I suppose.
The biggest puzzle, for today at leaest, is the order of assembly for the diff hanger/ strut/support, call it what you will. Having spent many, many hours searching the site, I cannot find any posts that deal with this specific issue, so in order to try for an answer from someone who knows, and then help others in the future, I'm going to break that out into a different post.
A good day, today, otherwise. Managed to install my new brake master cylinder. A note for anyone else doing this for either a 230 or 250 before the big changes: you will need the repair kit, which contains a rubber grommet into which the back 'pipe' of the reservoir presses, and the new O ring for the main connection between the reservoir and the master cylinder. It also contains a new hollow screw and spring washer that secures the thing to the MC. The rubber grommet for the back part is slightly too large to go into the MC. I had to trim about 1mm from the bottom of the grommet and it went in like a dream. I found a post last night where a fellow member had to do the same thing back in 04. (He thought he had the wrong parts; he ended up taking a sliver off and it worked fine for him, too. It's necessary to seat the lip of the grommet into the rear housing on the MC and then press the reservoir into the MC. There's also an O ring that goes on the MC where it joins the booster, but that comes with the MC). I got an ATE one from MB at around euros145 odd before tax.
