Title: Help with identifying a couple of parts
Post by: frankenbenz on April 19, 2013, 16:19:14
Help!

I have a few pieces of chrome that I can't figure out where the go. I have one piece that is approximately 1" wide and 18" long. Although the photo doesn't show it very well, it has sides on it that extend up at a 90 degree angle that are about 1/8" deep. I only have one of these.

The other parts look very much like the piece of chrome that is near the kick plates and connects the windlace to the body. Only these pieces are approximately 18" long (including the littel "notch" part). I'm actually wondering if they are part of my car or if I got someone else's parts back from the chrome shop. I did notice I was missing one or two pieces from them.

Thanks in advance

I don't recognise them.
As a matter of course i photograph every single item and print them. I present these prints to the chrome shop with my parts so that they cannot deny if they are lost or present me with parts that are not mine.

The part in the first picture looks like one of the optional chome shims found on some hardtops, used to adjust the weatherstripping distance to the rear edge of the sidewindow(door). No idea regarding the other part

Thanks guys! I have been working on the car itself so darned much I forgot about the hard top!! The two pieces with the "notches" are definitely for the hard top ... I just lined them up on the B pillars. I'm sure as I turn my attention to the hard top the other piece will fall into place.

Great advice on printing and inventorying the chrome pieces. I was quite young and naive when I started this project 20 years ago. With what this car has been through and the places it has been I'm surprised I have any parts left at all. I have certainly rebought so many over the years. Boy did I learn some life lessons on this thing.

Down to the short strokes though! Hopefully the windows will be back in and the doors back together this coming week. Then it's time to line up the hood, buff it and drive the darned thing just in time for summer!!!

This forum has been a godsend. Thanks for all the help out there guys!

You may have this already figured out as being hard top pieces, but just in case I'll mention that they look to me like the pieces that secure the weather stripping on the front part of the door.
