Title: 1964 230 SL GORGEOUS
Post by: thelews on April 20, 2013, 20:27:12
My friend's 230 SL.  This is one handsome car.  Under 40K miles, loaded with memorabilia from the original owner.  Front seats and top replaced by Black Forest LLC.  Much, much originality to the car, never wrecked or rusted.  Original chrome, glass, rubber, trunk, engine bay, paint in many places.  Firewall pad was replaced as it was frayed.   I've driven it and done some work on it, outstanding, as only a 230 SL can be and a 113 that's never been apart.  The deep red color is so unusual and really handsome in this car.

John
this car looks like an impossible dream on wheels :) come true.

It's Sunday morning here, 8 AM. Sunny warm springtime outside. Watching these pics with an expresso and French (sorry for this deviation  ;)) croissant on table makes one of these Perfect Days.

Absolutely beautiful! I have come to really appreciate the hub cap and beauty ring configuration on the 230/250s. Too bad they did away with them on the 280s.

Drop dead gorgeous.Stunning !.Same colour as mine 573 Dark Bordeaux red mine has light tan interior and a tan soft top a very rare colour only available for a short period. I believe olive green replaced it.Mine can be seen in the new book Factory- Original Mercedes SL. Thanks for posting. Cheers. Mike.

Looks as if it has just left the showrooms for the very first time. Envious of the next owner already  ;D

I looked at this again this morning. I noticed the soft top has a chrome strip on the last support above the rear window. That looks outstanding! Was that an MB option?

Re: chrome strip on soft top: my 64 230sl has the same strip, I assume it was standard for at least this year.

Yes, the earlier cars had the chrome strip -- reminiscent of the 190 and 300 I believe. Not sure when it was deleted.

Correct for all 230ies up to serial no. 007640 with the wooden main soft top bow above the rear window.
From # 007641 all 113s had the all metal bow.
