Title: What's this wire in the trunk?
Post by: 280sl1968 on May 06, 2013, 15:53:35
Any ideas as to what this thin wire is that runs along the left side of the trunk and enters the vehicle just under the left trunk lid hinge? It is separate from the main wiring harness etc that goes to the tail light cluster.

I saw it today while changing a bulb, and can't say that I've noticed it before.

It is not connected to anything in the trunk and I haven't followed it into the car to see where it's connected on the other side.

Just thought I'd check here first in case there's an obvious explanation.

Depends where it comes from, could be
1/ Rear fog light
2/ Power for electric antenna
3/ Security switch on trunk lid to alarm
maybe :-\

This might be the trunk lid light wire.
There should be a light bulb in the middle of the trunk lid opposite the outside trunk handle (so you can see inside the trunk when dark).
look into the small holes on the lid.
I really hope I did not confuse you
all the best
