I just bought a 1966 Mercedes 230sl and I can't open the trunk I push the button and it goes all the way in (so i don't believe its locked) but the trunk doesn't open. Anyone have any tricks I know I have scene people say they drill out the lock but that seems to be only if the button is locked which I don't think it is please help thanks!

If you feel no resistance or minor spring resistance, it is locked. When unlocked, you will feel much more resistance as the push button releases the latch. Try turning the lock 180 degrees with the key and see if it feels any different.

CLOCKWISE OR COUNTER CLOCK WISE?

CCW I think, but whatever works.
Are you sure you have the correct key? It's quite possible to end up with 5 keys for your car if POs have messed around with the locks.

If you just purchased the car then you did not do your homework properly :) one step is to open the trunk roll the rubber mat back and see if there is no rust on the trunk floor. Just saying :)
As for your key to the trunk, (as jpsenft mentioned), do you have the right key? How many keys do you have … I have 4 keys
Ignition … no markings needed it is the largest key.
Doors ……. Stamped "D"
Trunk ……. Stamped "T"
Gas Cap … Stamped "G"
Keys can be tricky, for example when I picked up my car (one item I did not check was all the locks and keys since the previous owner only gave me the ignition key for the test run). When I picked up the car I needed to tank and low and behold I tried to open the gas cap without success. I finally had to phone the previous owner, he came and gave me a lesson how to unlock the gas cap. :) So as I said it can be tricky.
If you have no success, I recommend you go to a locksmith or a Benz Dealer, find a seasoned Mechanic and you should be okay then.

If you don't have any keys that turn the trunk lock (which I find hard to imagine given that the previous owner must have been able to open the trunk) get the data card on the car which will have the key codes and order a new key for the trunk. You can order the key from MB or from keymen.com (I might have that spelled wrong) or from any key company that will cut keys to code.

I have a way to get into anyones trunk but I'm not going to explain how I do it here for obvious reasons. PM me or give me a call and I will explain it to you.
