Title: Bundt rims forged vs cast

After reading up I am interested in some 14" bundt Fuchs FORGED rims not the later style cast wheels (Chicago potholes and all) how can I tell the difference?  Is it by the model number 108 400 09 02 vs any other number or the steel inserts where the lugs go?  I know the aftermarket (ronal, ARC, and ATS) also made them that look very close but again they are cast not forged so..... potholes vs cast = bent rim.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bob,

The quick  way to determine if they are Fuchs rims is to check for the steel inserts.
But some aftermarket bundts also have the steel inserts, so to look for the MB part number (like the number you refer to)
on the inside is the only way to be certain they are the MB wheels made by Fuchs.

Hi,

Of course the original Mercedes/Fuchs rims are do have a Mercedes number (6Jx14 was 1084000902 / 126.... as far as I remember) at the inside and steel inserts for the bolts, but - at least all the aftermarket wheels sold here in Germany - need to have a so-called KBAxxxxx number ("Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt" - Federal Office for Motor Traffic).

And this KBA-number needs to be visible from the outside - i.e. with the wheel mounted on the car.

Thus the
- ATS (6Jx14: KBA40129),
- Melber (6Jx14: KBA40249),
- Ronal (6Jx14: KBA40383) &
- ARC (not sure, but the ARC may have been the aftermarket version with steel inserts & KBA40314 for the 6Jx14 version ?!)
versions I'm aware of all have a KBA number cast into the aluminum on the outside - you can easily tell them apart from the Mercedes/Fuchs ones.
