Title: Engine RPMs
Post by: n/a on August 09, 2004, 11:55:25
I have read frequently about the tendency for the pagoda engines to run at high RPMs.  For example, at 70 mph, the engine hums along at almost 4000 rpm.  Do any of you know of a technical bulletin that lists expected RPMs with various speeds (e.g., 50 mph = x rpm, 60 mph = y rpm, etc.)?

Thank you.

The technical specification book (available from MB) lists all the various speeds you ask for in a nice chart.

Hey Jeff that was a really handy calculator !!

It prooves my speedo reads exactly correct, but there is a difference between the tyres I have now and what I should have as original !

With my set up, in 4th gear, the speed in miles per hour is just about double the rpms in hundreds; so at 3,000 rpm (30 hundred) the speed is 60 mph; at 2,000 rpm, it's 40 mph. This also tells me that if I go to the red line, it will be slightly over 120 mph (if the car holds together.)

My numbers are: 3.92 rear end, 205/70X14 rear tires.
