Title: The "other" rubber trunk mat
Post by: Douglas on August 09, 2004, 14:00:30
My trunk mat that rests underneath the spare tire beneath the jack was all brittle and dry, so a quick phonecall to Tom Hanson at Caliber Motors solved the problem for a mere $27.

My guess was that it was either no longer available or astronomically priced, so this was a pleasant surprise.

I also got the two trunk mats from Tom at Caliber motors, but the small one is a different pattern and required modifying to slip over the jack stop. I wonder if I got the correct mat or a mat to another Mercedes?

I was afraid that the new part might be different from the original. I still have the original. Is there anyone out there who can copy the original?

I'll let everyone know how the part compares when I receive it. I'll take pix of the two, side-by-side.

Doug I am very intrested to see what you'll get.  I too am experiencing the same with my mat.  I did see one on ebay this morning but the color was off. In the pic it looked blue? Here is the item # 7915254376. Seller states "custom fit" for Pagoda model. Also states retail over $200.00

Hauser,

I looked up the part on ebay. That is not the part I'm talking about. The mat I'm referring to is the one underneath the spare tire. You can't see it unless you take the spare out of the car. It rests underneath the jack.

The smaller trunk mat arrived today and it was spot-on perfect. Identical to the original in every way.

It's sort of a greenish dark gray. It's the identical color as my original.

Makes one wonder if the main mat might still be available in the original material...

I have been looking for a trunk mat for the early 230Sl's that have the vertical spare tire mounted in the well on the left side of the trunk. I been told that they are no longer available. Have others tried to find them?

Hi Paul,

Yes, I tried to find the trunk mat for the vertical spare tire... and with same answer: it's no longer available (not only in MB... it seems that nobody makes it). So, I take care of mine like it was crystal  :)
