Hello,
My fuel tank is leaking and it's necessary that I remove it for repair. I've disconnected the sending unit, fuel lines, and removed the mounting bolts but I can't seem to clear the filler neck from the rear opening (exhaust pipes won't allow me to move the tank forward enough to clear the filler neck). This is an early 230 with the smaller tank.
Is it necessary to drop the the exhaust pipes and rear muffler to remove the tank?
thanks, Charles

Have you removed the filler pipe cover from inside of the boot (8 phillips head screws from memory). It gives you a bit more room to maneuver the tank.

yes, I've removed the filler pipe cover but still can't seem to clear the exhaust pipes. As long as I know its possible, I'll keep jockying the tank..
I just dont want to drop the exhaust system unless its absolutely necessary. thanks, Charles

Did you get the soft neck out of the body at the filler? It will give you more wriggle room

Yes, I've removed the filler neck grommet. Looks like I'll have to drop the exhaust... thanks, Charles

I removed the exhaust hangers and dropped the pipes/muffler down far enough to remove the tank. Thanks all,, Charles
