Title: 1966 230SL Door Trim
Post by: Harry on October 12, 2014, 21:54:14
I hope that I can describe this clear enough to make sense.  I am  rebuilding my door panels including the chrome outer trim and the a shiny aluminum strip (very thin) that runs along the top of the upholstered panel.  The panel hangs over the inner clips that also hold the inner whiskers.  My question is how the aluminum strip that runs along the top of the panel attach?  It looks as though the rib of the strip could go between those clips and the whisker or between the upper edge of the panel and the clip.  The first option seems best from a fit standpoint but I'm not certain.  A photograph might be a big help.

Thanks very much!
Harry

Indeed Harry, it would help to see the strip that you are talking about.  ;)
Anyway, I suspect that it is the one shown in the photo. The trim strip is fixed to the upper curved aluminum part of the door panel by several (5 to 7 ?) barbed clips.

Interesting.  BTW - that is indeed the aluminum strip that I was trying to describe.  So, the aluminum strip is clipped to the aluminum on the door panel and the panel then fits into the clips on the whisker?  Much better.  Thanks Alfred - you've been a grand help!
