Hi All,
I am putting the hood back on my 280.
When I took it off and released the brass 'lever' going from the hood to a holder in the engine bay, it was under tremendous spring load. I'm trying to put it back together and for the life of me I can't figure out how the hooked end goes back in the holder. It seems to have tension in the exact opposite direction of what I want.
Am I missing something?
This is the end of the lever that is confusing the hell out of me:

In the Tech Manual you will see the procedure to remove and reinstall hood.

I suspect you removed the hood without securing the tension spring and thus now it appears to be 180 degree out. Have a read it should get you back on track.

Ahhhh, I missed that in the tech manual. Looks like I need to wind it counterclockwise. I wondered about this but was afraid the thing would snap!
Thanks!

Be very careful and make sure you use a metal hook to hold it in a wound up position while you put the hood in place. There is a slot cut into the side of the hood to hold the hook.

Thanks everyone. I was able to tension the rod and use an S-hook as described. Wow, that thing is scary!
