Title: Paint code 574 G
Post by: gabella on June 08, 2015, 01:18:51
I could not reply to previous thread on this but my 65 230SL seems to be originally orange under repaint.  There seems to some discussion on this in German language which also states orange.  http://www.pagodentreff.de/diskussionsforum/t13011-pagode-orange-t-rkisem-interieur.html

Most interesting. I just checked the color charts that I have (back to the early 60's) and there is no listing for 574. There is a 573 as dark bordeaux and a 576 as red. The 500 series colors were usually through the red palette. Will be most interested to see what others have to type about this.

Also quite and unusual color tag. Have never seen one like that for a 113.

Where is the tag mounted?

Aah, the mysterious color code #574 is showing up again.
We had this discussion before ... but I am not sure that we came to a conclusion:

gabella, did you check you data card to make sure that it also shows code 574?

It is not Spinellrot, this color is from 1996. This Orange 574G is a very special color made by Glasurit for Mercedes only by special order. The Pagode for the Genova Car  Show was painted in the same color with black roof.  I dont know the name or the formula of it. The best is to match from the original color with  spectograph computer.

Almost looks like a Porsche orange from that time period, tangerine (started in '66) or signal orange (started in '70).  I checked and it doesn't match any of the paint codes used by Porsche, most of theirs were four digits.

MB code 574 from 01.01.63 to 28.02.68 was for rims chromium plated.  Also applied to exclusive saffron leather (574A).  The spinell red code 574 didn't start until 1978 (574O).

I like it on a Porsche, I don't know about a Pagoda.  I'd have to see it in person.  I have seen a mint green Pagoda.  It looked really sharp.

When I was in Germany 2 years , I visited the classic car center near the factory.
The fellow I talked to knew about colors. The reason that came up was that my 1972 220D had a code for a forest green.
The car was not Forest green, it was a weird color green. He printed out a color chart and that color was not there.
I still have the car but painted it black. So it is hard to find any parts that have that color left on it.

the car has a bright red leather interior so everybody called it a Christmas tree car.
When I was at the factory to pick it up I informed them  that it was the wrong color and did not want the car.
They were shocked and did not know what to do.
Since we just came across the pond and my wife was very tired (Did not Sleep) I decided not to make trouble and accepted the car.

The point to make here is to try and reach the classic car center in Germany and see if they can identify that color.
They could not identify mine.
