Title: Dash chrome trim - underdash knee panel
Post by: rwh on June 16, 2015, 17:20:24
I am completing the restoration of my '64 230sl  (#4523) and am curious how the chrome trim that attaches to the dash across the radio plate meets the trim above the steering column.  It could be that my trim is either incomplete or has been modified.  Any pictures of the how it should be are appreciated. Thanks.

RWH,

Your center chrome strip (the one on the radio plate) has been shortened on its left-side end. It's no longer usable. :'(

Try to find another one. :-[

Indeed the center trim meets up with left one above the steering column. Your curved end is missing as you can see in the photo (I hope).
You might have the bar from a 280SL since those are shorter and do NOT meet up.

Thanks for the responses - that is exactly what I needed.  I am now in search of a proper replacement piece and have contacted a reputable source in Maine that has helped me in the past.
