Have just fitted Wolfgang's shift knob with Getrag pattern engraved - Wow, it has improved the shift dramatically ! (Just kidding) Quality appears excellent, and it is literally a 5 minute fit. Digits slightly smaller than on 4 speed, but of no consequence, as now people can look inside and exclaim " Gosh, a five speed" ! Cheers, Dale.

Link please!

i like it too, thanks to Wolfgang always perfect.

Wolfgang@w113.eu His response is usually very quick. Seems like a good guy to deal with. Cheers, Dale.

I emailed Wolfgang and he responded very quickly. I had to use an online translator only to find out the message has been received.
Not sure where to go from here?

The reason the digits are smaller is that the seize of the orb stays the same, but the 5 gear digits are bigger and would be distorted at the edge.

Where does one buy one of these, since we are getting close to needing this exact item? Thank you.

I believe you can not buy just the gear knob from him...... :(
Any other avenues?

Just a note to all.
I purchased his 5 speed kit conversion about 2 years ago.
As usual it has not been installed as of yet.
But here is the rub. He cannot ship out of Germany, due to the fact he does have the rights to ship
Maybe by now he can I do not know.
Just a note to future purchasers.

I had the 5 engraved onto my existing gear knob at a jewellery shop. To me it looks perfect, although the engraver does have a warrant from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Perhaps he does the dog tags for the corgi dogs! This was his first commission in bakelite.
I think that any shop which engraves sports trophies would be able to add the 5 with careful instruction as to positioning.
I will try to post a photo when I am reunited with the car this weekend.
Since having the 5 engraved I have wondered whether this was a good plan as I have not updated the car's registration document. If this were to be picked up at the bi-annual controle technique inspection as a non-homologated modification of the car I would become embroiled in French bureaucracy until the end of time.

The problem would mostly come from the insurance in case of an accident. As you know their job is to find any way for not paying and in this case they would have the law on their side in France. We heared of a 190SL owner with insurance defaulting on him because he had replaced his carbs with webers of same specs, but the car was considered modified without obtaining a clearance from the manufacturer.

I have friends in the UK who could receive it for me and re-ship, but he doesn't sell just the knob, sadly. I will just have to remember where fifth gear is.....
If anyone knows of another supplier for this item, please let us all know.

Hopefully I have attached a photo of the engraved gear knob.

Hi Andrew. Looks nice. I tried engravers locally (Vancouver) a couple of times, without success. I guess having a Royal warrant makes a difference !! I quit looking after being fortunate enough to get one from Wolfgang. Cheers, Dale.
