Title: Main Brake Booster for 250SL--Need A Souce
Post by: 250SLFranco on July 28, 2015, 20:46:38
The main brake booster for my '67 250SL has gone out.  Does anyone have a domestic source for replacement or repair?
The labor was quoted at 4 hours if I can find a replacement....does that sound about right?
Your help greatly appreciated....I am off the road until this is taken care of!

Just spoke with Charlie Pitts at the Power Brake Exchange in Bell Garden California....he is the man!  Sending it today and will have it powder coated...under $200.00, done deal.
Does 4 hours labor sound right for pulling and replacement?

On the two that I replaced, I charged an hour.  Two nuts off and he brake master can be moved forward without disconnecting the lines, and then it's four nuts and the booster comes out.

Four hours is OK IF:
They are going to dismantle the fulcrum and clean/regrease, they are going to take time to correctly adjust the pedal afterwards, they are going to remove the master cylinder, clean out the reservoir and then bleed the brakes.
It is possible to do the servo in 30 mins if you simply want to bend the brake pipes with the master cylinder still attached to it.

If just a remove and replace, one hour max your first time. After that, this is a 30 minute job. Just make sure you don't kink the brake lines and you have the slot on the eccentric bolt on the lever arm pointing in the right direction.
