Title: Side trim installation help
Post by: w113bkk on December 03, 2015, 02:55:54
I started to try to put the lower stainless trim on my cars door today. I have new blue clips from Mercedes. What is the best method to install these trim pieces? I attempted to first put the clips in the track of the trim piece and tried to snap them into place but I can't depress them into the hole far enough to get it to bite. Then I put the clips in the door and tried sliding the trim down to each clip. This worked until I got about 1/2 down the door and as I lifted the trim to go onto the next clip it pulled some of the previous clips out of their holes.

I also noticed there are little flaps on the side of the clips. Are these flaps supposed to be slid under the track on the piece of trim or do they sit onto of the track?

The person who did the body work on my car seemed to fill in the holes with filler where the clips go onto the fenders. Is there any way that I can reallocate these holes without causing damage to the car's finish? Does anyone have measurements per chance?

Attached is a picture of the trim with the clips installed.
insight is appreciated in this matter.

Hi not sure I can help but I will try.

Firstly these lower pieces are Aluminium ( some say Aluminum) and are therefore quite soft. My guy put the blue clips in the holes first and then snapped on the aluminium trip piece to the clips with a gentle side punch. You do need to take caution that you don't punch too hard and dent the trim piece. (my guy punched too hard at least once). Perhaps you can wrap your fist in rags first to soften the blow?

Not sure if anyone has better ideas.
