I just rebuilt a spare fuel pump and re-assembled it using Vaseline, Plugged the ports, and added a few packets of silica to the bag I put it in. Hoping to have a ready to go pump if the time arises. Anyone else have any clever tricks for keeping shelved parts in good shape?
Those silica packets are dirt cheap.

How about keeping it in a dry, heated place (like in the house) rather than in a garage or similar place?

Zip loc bag it. evacuate as much air as possible.

Pinder, you just gave me an idea. Going to borrow my wifes "foodsaver" machine. That oughta do it.

You can also use a straw with the ziplock zipped up very tight to the straw. Then suck the air out with the straw and seal the remaining portion.

Both great ideas. Ill try the straw idea next time.

I put a whole swack of tools and supplies in my camper away like that - but I spray the corrosion prone stuff with S100 Anti corrosion spray first that won't damage what I put in the bag, just incase the Ziploc bag un-zipped and air got in.
Its absolutely amazing how with just a little spray of S100 you can get what seems like whole a mouthful of oil when you suck the air out of the bag with a straw.
I live 3/4 of a mile from the ocean and usually we camp right on the ocean so salt is a pain.
Be careful what you use - I think S100 is safe for almost anything but there are lots of "snake oils" out there that will disintegrate carb parts and your rubber seals if you let them.

Check out Evapo-Rust. [Evapo-Rust.com] They make rust remover (external, and for cooling systems), and rust block (for when putting parts in storage).

I usually put some desiccant in the bag to protect parts from moisture. Available from Unline.com
