I'm about to paint a 230SL transmission and I was wondering if anyone had the paint code. It appears to be light green similar to army surplus.
-
I asked the same question to the Classic Center in Germany, they answered: "Normal black, the color paint like the axles and engine". I replied that my transmission was greenish grey, and not repainted. The reply was one word: "Black", accompanied by a picture from Koellner with a black transmission.
I am quite sure that my transmission was "greenish" gray, but I have not been able to find the color code.

I am certain that Hans or Achim will have the answer to hand, Dan, but I can confirm that it ain't black. Mine is un-repainted and it's a sort of mossy green (but not an Army green!) ::)

I agree, it's not black and it's not army surplus but it is light green in colour. I suppose I could have flange behind the throw out bearing scanned and get a paint code from that. That thing has never seen the light of day so it should be as close to the correct colour as I'll ever find.
I will share this code if I'm able to come up with something.

Here is one link for Motoring Investments that shows a 4 speed transmission.

Yes, I agree on the green/grey color. However I cannot say for sure that MB was consistent in using this color for all the years. Rustoleum "sage green" #249094 is fairly close if you are not too picky.

I'm reasonably sure that most were this green colour. I'll try that paint and see how it looks. Thanks Joe.

Ditzler DP40 epoxy is close to that too. Scroll down to see the pictures:
