Title: Fuel injection pump on 230sl
Post by: srisant on May 20, 2016, 03:33:11
Hi, my fuel pump PES 6 KL 70/120 R11 is in bad shape and it is very difficult to get one. I have seen several pump for 250sl PES 6 KL 70 B 120 R18 works on 230sl with adjustment of fuel level? If not can any of you suggest a reliable place for me to get it fully rebuild or exchange? Many thanks

First check to see if both pumps have their own oil supply or if the later one has the engine oil circulating through it.  I believe the later pumps can be used if you have someone really good at setting up the mixture adjustments.

The R18 pump does have the self contained oil supply with dipstick. As far as it working on a 230, it will "work" but you may run into problems with the air/fuel curve that is governed by the different mapping of the space cam.

Used pumps are out there. I wouldn't put anything except the right part on it.

I'm with Dan.  The "Space Cam" is a 3 dimensional steel map of the fuel requirements that takes into account the anticipated load and speed of the engine.  Putting a pump on with a different space cam in it opens up a lot or room for problems.  If you consider that you already have a used pump and that the youngest of these pumps is 45 years old you will probably be on borrowed time anyway.  you might be able to get by for a while but eventually you will be better off rebuilding what you have.  Hans at H and R fuel injection or Gus at Pacific fuel injection are both names that seem to come up when rebuilding is needed.
