Title: HELP ! my Brake booster / mount seems different? - 67 250sl - RHD
Post by: PMO956F on July 25, 2016, 14:50:08
Hi Guys.

Been a while away from my rebuild , can anyone help with this Q?

67 250sl  brake booster support has part number 113 435 0240

in the parts catalogue it shows this mount to have a pivot that accepts a fork type booster

mine has a ball (on the end of the booster) and cup (on the pivot arm in the alloy booster mount) ?!

(the ball shown connecting to the lever in the pic is the end of the old booster that was broken )

the new booster  i ordered from the parts book shown to be correct has the fork type as shown in the catalogue

The NOS booster has an ate part number 03.6197-0220.4

Is this steel booster pivot original (with the ball and socket attachment - and an eccentric cam adjustment on the lower fixing ) or maybe its been modified or from another car? as the catalogue doesn't seem to  show this type ?
Can i adapt / change  the ball and socket pivot arm in the bracket  to accept the fork type booster i have ?

I know the  67 250sl s  can differ .

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

see pics ..

thanks in advance

Darren

Hi, Darren,

The booster is for a LHD car and your car is RHD?

Hi Naj

Nice to speak to you again , (I came by 2 years ago ) and i hope you are keeping well  :)

Well i am nearly there now with the car , was hoping to get on the road this summer but for a few setbacks.

I wonder why the RHD booster would have a ball instead of a fork then ?

Do you know if its possible to fit it , maybe the pivot arm is changeable , its a shame I was very pleased with my NOS booster !

Best Regards Darren

Hi, Darren,

Maybe you can cut off the clevis from the new booster and grind the shank of the rod to match your old one?

From what I remember the rod on the RHD one does not protrude that much???

Bring both the old one and the new one to me and I can dismantle them and swap the rods.

Hi Stick ,was just looking at the parts thinking the same thing !

Sounds great , was just wondering if the total rod length would be the same if fitted to the new one , as I know it's quite important ,
Have you done this mod in the past ?  would it take long to fit  ?

Thanks Darren

I think I've done it before.
I've disassembled so many boosters that I can't remember. I would presume (not something I do often) that's OK but there's only one way to find out.
The work would take maybe 30 mins if all went well but it's not a job I would be prepared to take on a "while you wait basis" simply because we are so busy I cannot guarantee when that half hour would be available.
