Title: Post FI overhaul starting issue.
Post by: Tom in seattle on July 26, 2016, 16:50:28
I removed the FI pump and mailed it off for overhaul.  After reinstallation, the engine requires some nursing if it has sat for an hour or so or longer but otherwise fires right off.  I understand that the 6 individual injector lines are not pressurized at rest, so, assuming that I have a lack of startup fuel pressure, the problem must be loss of pressure between the tank pump and the FI pump or a cold start valve problem.  Before the FI pump overhaul, cold start was not a problem. After reinstalling the FI pump I did adjust the idle screw at the back of the FI pump to slow the idle and replaced the cap rotor and points but did not change timing. I have found no fuel leaks at the engine and the tank pump has not been molested in this time period.  Please critique me and provide guidance.

You may want to go through the linkage tour again as it is possible the stop for the FIP was adjusted during the rebuild. Throws everything else off.
Since you replaced the points you may want to recheck dwell.

It is very common for a car that had been unfettled for years but was always a good starter to have actually been running rich all of the time and so always started first time. Now, having eliminated the rich problem by having the pump overhauled it's possible that another underlying problem has been revealed.
Start with the basics and check everything assuming nothing.
