I'm resigned to the fact that it's time to have my (R11) FIP rebuilt. I've got too much leak-down through the check valves and hot starts have become a nuisance. I've read that Pacific Fuel Injection (PFI) will upgrade the old cone-seal pressure valves to ball-seal valves. Has anyone had this done recently by PFI and are they still the vendor of choice? If so, how long did it take and how much? thanks x 1,000,000.

I did some research on this subject recently. The MBZ Classics Center uses Pacific Fuel Injection for rebuilds of their FIPs. I called Pacific Fuel Injection recently. There is about a six week turnaround time on their rebuilds.

I had my 280SL pump rebuilt by Pacific. Warm-up enrichment doesn't work very well and the rack adjustment needed adjustment to stop a lean backfire on acceleration. The cosmetics were nice.
I have since dealt with Robert Fairchild at Jerry Fairchild Industries on another pump and he has helped me with troubleshooting. How can I say this delicately? Much better communications than Pacific. You can actually talk to Robert (grandson of Jerry) and describe the issues you are having. You can also tell them if you want cosmetic upgrades. At Pacific, it's one size, one price.

ok, thanks Chuck, based on past forum comments, I'm leaning toward Fairchild Industries.
just curious, anyone had any work done by H&R Fuel Injection lately?

I have used both Gus and Hans. haven't heard from Hans lately.

Mine was sent to Hans for testing. It checked out ok.

I have worked on two cars that had pumps rebuilt by H&R. The owners reported that the pumps had to be sent back for because they didn't work correctly.
-
The PO of my red 230SL reported the same.
The son now runs the company. Perhaps a different business model or less experience?

I used Black Forest in WI...Did excellent work. Cost was about $1500.
Test runs the pump on a dyno, Perfectly tuned and very nice detailed. It speaks loads when you only have to install it once and not have to send iot back or spend a bundle of time to fine tune it.
Mike does not farm out any work does it all himself. Has been in business for many years and just specialized in MB of the older vintage.
I will have a detailed post coming soon how to set the 113 to run in a 14.4-1 fuel range.
