The ring and pinions are offered by Babek on this forum.  Nice idea but with a slight hitch.  Due to the unique nature of the rear axle in our cars you need some fairly specialized tools in order to set it up properly.  This isn't  one of those "he's just being picky and I should be able to wing it." moments.  Without having a plan that includes knowing who to take it to that has the proper tools and experience to set it up your expensive gear set will most likely end up as rubble.

Scroll down about halfway until you see the tool with the dial face on it:

Ebay item nbr: 262630194039

Question is, the OE version of this ratio comes on the 280SE 4.5 Merc. It has a sizeable diff, larger than the pagoda's along with some crazy oil return hose.

The one offered by the Germans and Babak, fits in a smaller housing with no oil return thing. I mean taking all the variables into consideration and assuming it was fitted properly, how tough will those aftermarket bits be?

There probably isn't enough power in our cars to hurt the smaller carrier.
