Title: distance chainj to bolt
Post by: 450sl on November 16, 2016, 13:53:58
Gents,

I am rebuilding my engine and need to make a alu shim  for the m12 bolt.
How much clearance bolt to chain is required?

Thanks
Mark

Finally i machined a washer of 3mm thickness.

A warning for not using any washer : bolt is about to hit the chain .................

Mark, If your car has power steering, then the fluid reservoir is held in situ with this bolt. It takes up the extra clearance you are having an issue with. Also the gasket sets come with an aluminum seal washer to use as well.

I believe the special bolt has a aluminum seal on both sides of the PS bracket, if it has PS? Wi9thout PS it has one seal. The special bolt has a nice rounded shape end and is most likely case hardened on its tip.
