Title: Inhibit switch
Post by: cfm65@me.com on January 03, 2017, 06:10:05
Hi Gents,
This photo of the inhibit switch on my 250SL shows 2 purple wires on the LH of the plug.  The one is purple or violet and the other purple with a white tracer. They are about the same length and I cant figure out which one goes into the top position and which in the bottom. I dont think it is all that important BUT it might be.
Your assistance will be much appreciated.
Regards
Chris

Hi,
maybe these pictures can help: http://www.pagodentreff.de/diskussionsforum/t10752-automatikschalter-2.html.
It looks regardless of which position they are. Did you check the function of inhibit function and rear drive light?

Hi WRe,
Thank you for your help.
I am also of the opinion that it will not make any difference, but I wanted to check first.
No, I have not checked the function of the reverse lights, but I'll have a look.
Thank you.
Regards
Chris

From the picture it appears the two purple wires have been messed with somewhere in the past. Notice the difference in the way the soldering/connections are made on the other two wires.
Could some other changed connections on those two purple wires be an issue??

Could be Jonny,
Could also have been resoldered by a ham fisted handy man. Mine is not a well kept or well maintained speciman. I am trying to pick up the loose ends as best I can.
However, the reverse lights are working correct. I still need to hook up the kick down switch. One step at a time.
Thanks guys your assistance are much appreciated.
Regards
Chris

What is a inhibit switch?
I probably know it by another name.

It's the switch on the firewall that prevents the starter from engaging while the car is in gear.

These are also known as the neutral safety switch. Depending on the version and year of production, the wire quantities and colors will vary.
