Title: fuel sender hard to find
Post by: guyke on January 13, 2017, 15:08:28
this is my original fuel sender 111 542 1104 its the one whit the arm and floating device
i would change the fuel sender to a newer type 110 542 1204 the ones whit the aluminieum sleeve , i think while running the fuel is going up and down in the tank and whit that old type jour gauche is going up and down also

second problem is that the old type fuel sender is verry rare to find
i found a ebay seller that have a type that could match but i would have to change the cables connected to the sender ,

I did a bit of a search, and found that the sender and gauge are matched. That is, the new style (canister) will not work with the old style (float) gauge. There was also some comment about two different types of canister sensors, but could not find any detail on this.

BTW - I just happened to be speaking with my mechanic yesterday, and even the canister style are hard to get.

You can use the search functionality to find some of the specific information.

Replacement here, if you ever need it.

Not affiliated with the seller, etc, etc.... just trying to help.

Here is what you can do. Get a sender for a 190SL and mount it so that the float points to the right side of the tank when installed. You will need to drill an extra hole in the mounting flange because it's indexed towards the left side of the tank.
The reason for doing this is important. You can mount the sender as is but the float will hit the flower pot once it gets down to about 1/3 tank. I had this same problem on a 1960 220SE where it kept running out of fuel even though the gauge said it still had fuel in the tank. Checking the sender function showed it was working perfectly which was very perplexing. We finally figured out how to fit it which worked perfectly.

The aluminium fuel sender will not work for your car.

Prijzen in Amerika zijn zeer verschillend met de Europese prijzen, vaak vragen ze het dubbel in prijs en daar nog eens bovenop moet er vaak import tax betaald worden bij aankomst.
