Title: Power antenna connector? or?
Post by: BaronYoungman on March 02, 2017, 15:48:57
So in the process of helping restore a 1970 280sl I am in the passenger kick panel and I see mountings for a power antenna (but nothing on the data card it is a mono beckers europa) along with the 2 fuse jump box in the engine compartment but when we purchased it, it only had a manual antenna (aftermarket) so I have 2 questions
1. There are 3 wires leading from the jump fuse box on passenger side in the engine compartment one wire I believe is the power for the radio the other goes to a large strange looking plug ?where the power antenna would be , is this stock (see pictures)?
2. If I am going to put another power antenna here what is my closest replacement without paying an arm and leg?

thanks, Bob

That is indeed a Hirschmann power connector but was not factory on these cars. That style is 3 pin plus 2 wipe contacts for shielding. There should be power, ground, and a lead that goes over to the radio or a switch to signal the antenna to go up and down. It was also used for an antenna that had signal amplification booster box incorporated in it. These didnt come around till late 70's
